In anticipation of the forthcoming 25th Anniversary celebration of the revered King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Manhyia Palace has welcomed a thoughtful donation aimed at enhancing the cleanliness and tidiness of the historic site.
The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), in collaboration with the Kumasi Compost and Recycling Plant (KCARP), Africa’s largest compost plant under the Jospong Group, generously donated 30 waste containers to the Palace.
These bins were formally presented to the Palace on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, by representatives of the donors.
The recipients of the bins included Otumfuo Ankobeahene, Bafour Kwame Kusi II, Otumfuo Gyaasehene (Buabasa) Nana Aduboffuor Kwaw II, and the Chief of Staff of the Palace, Mr. Kofi Badu.
Mr. Francis Dwira Darko, the Metro Coordinating Director, speaking on behalf of the Chief Executive of the Assembly, emphasized the vital role of these bins in upholding hygienic standards within the Palace premises, particularly as the anniversary festivities draw near.
He expressed gratitude to the Jospong Group for promptly responding to the Assembly’s request for assistance in ensuring the Palace’s cleanliness during the Silver Jubilee celebrations.
Mr. Eugene Amo-Asamoah, the Business Development and Communications Manager of KCARP, elucidated that the contribution of the Jospong Group transcends the mere donation of bins.
He outlined a strategic waste management plan, whereby all waste materials collected from the Palace would be directed to the KCARP factory at Adagya for recycling into new products.
“Zoomlion will collect the waste and deliver it to our recycling plant, where organic waste will be processed into compost for farmers, while plastics, metals, and paper wastes will be recycled separately,” Mr. Amo-Asamoah explained.
In response, Nana Buabasa expressed heartfelt appreciation to all stakeholders for their unwavering support towards the upcoming anniversary celebration.
