In light of recent calls by Wilberforce Mfum, urging Asante Kotoko fans to resort to violence against the players due to the team’s dismal performance in the Ghana Premier League, former Kotoko midfield maestro Michael Akuffo, fondly known as Gaddafi, has stepped forward to denounce such drastic measures.
Mfum’s demand for the immediate sacking of head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum, following a string of five consecutive defeats, has escalated tensions within the club’s fanbase.
However, Akuffo, who played a pivotal role during his time with Kotoko, has urged for a more constructive approach to addressing the team’s struggles.
“I don’t support beating the players,” Akuffo stated emphatically, emphasizing that resorting to physical violence is not the solution. Instead, he stressed the importance of players stepping up their performance on the field to turn the tide of results in favor of the club.
“Kotoko is not just a club but a religion,” Akuffo remarked, echoing the sentiments of His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the revered Ashanti king, who emphasized the significance of dedication and commitment to the club.
“When you worship it wholeheartedly, it will also bless you,” Akuffo continued, underscoring the deep-rooted passion and loyalty that defines the Kotoko fanbase.
Akuffo encouraged the current players to draw inspiration from the rich history and legacy of Asante Kotoko, channeling their energy into improving their performance on the pitch rather than succumbing to external pressure or violence.
